In this workshop you will create a digital ‘painting’ using a range of Photoshop filters and
effects, from a photographic image provided – or bring in your own (eg jpeg file). Take
away a free print of your work. If you want to take away a digital copy of your work,
remember to bring a memory stick. Otherwise, a free blank CD will be provided. You do
not need to be a Photoshop expert as this workshop introduces you to basic image
manipulation and simple Photoshop techniques.
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by
adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden
containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.
Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community
and support for the environment. This workshop is suitable for all ages who have a sense
of inquiry and adventure.
Learn some fun and simple techniques using Cheetah or SketchUp 3D software (TBC). You
will produce what it says on the label – a digital beach chalet in 3D digital form! This is
suitable for beginners but some basic familiarity with computers and graphical or CAD
programs will be an advantage and speed up your output. You will be able to take away a
free print of your work. If you want to take away a digital copy, bring a USB memory stick:
otherwise a free blank CD will be provided.
A Foley Artist ‘recreates’ sound effects for film, television and radio. Almost every motion
picture and television show you have ever seen contains a Foley track! In this session you
will experience the live recording of sound effects – effects that you create, capture and
add to video programs in post production. They’re easy to produce and record with
hobbyist/prosumer equipment. This session is for anyone who is interested in sound
media and special effects. You do not need any prior experience. Bring a USB memory
stick with you if you want to save your effects.
A video podcast or ‘vodcast’ is a short movie clip that can be uploaded onto the Web and
is suitable for viewing on mobile media such as an iPod, mp4 player or video-enabled
mobile, as well as on your PC. You will work in groups to film a short mp3 video sequence
and then upload it to the College’s podcast server. Your vodcast can then be downloaded
to an iPod or other mobile devices using a program such as iTunes. This useful technology
enables you to capture, compress and upload video clips, to be shared on the move with
friends, or for business or educational purposes. You do not need to be an expert, but it
will be useful if you have used a video camcorder before, and have some basic familiarity
with computers and Internet.
Many people think of art as a painting on the wall or a solid sculpture but sound can be
art as well. We are constantly surrounded by amazing sounds that we take for granted
and this workshop is a short introduction to how you can capture those sounds and turn
them into something surprising and wonderful. All you need to bring is your ears and
imagination.
Flash software is widely used to produce web animation and many current animated TV
trailers and ads. In this session you will produce a simple animated sequence using basic
methods. No prior experience is necessary but some knowledge or experience of video or
graphics programs will be an advantage. If you want to take your animation away with
you, bring a USB memory stick. Otherwise a blank CD will be provided. Even if you don’t
have Flash software, you can save your work as a swf file which will play in Flash Player
which normally resides within your Internet browser on your computer.
